Whether or not there is a trade deal we will essentially be treating the EU as a third country and vice versa, so inevitably there will be extra bureaucracy involved irrespective of whether trade is tariff free or not. So there is a need to become au fait with all the intricacies required.
The Government will be bringing in the necessary controls in three stages up to 1 July 2021 to help ease the burden on business in adjusting to the new requirements The Government has issued a key document, 2020 Border Operating Model – all of 206 pages – which sets out what is needed in some detail. We urge you to go through it carefully if you trade with EU countries or transport goods to third countries through the EU. The document will be updated and supplemented in the autumn.
