The British Plastics Federation (BPF) will be giving away complete sets of its ‘Plastics Timeline’ posters free to the first 200 visitors to its stand at next month’s PDM show in Telford. The set of 10 posters, each measuring 113cm by 59cm, charts the history of the plastics industry from its early beginnings in the 1800s to its development throughout the 20th century.

Highlights include the first PET drinks bottle in 1973; the invention of PEEK by ICI in 1983, and the development of carbon-fibre reinforced plastics in 2008.

The BPF said the timeline also featured a glimpse into the future of the plastics industry “with developments such as plastics blood, 3D printed body parts and driverless vehicles all featured”.
